College of Architecture
College of Architecture
The College of Architecture at Kuwait University, established in 2010, comprises two main departments. The Department of Architecture, founded in 1996 under the College of Engineering and Petroleum, and the Department of “Arts and Design,” which began in 2003 under the University College for Women, later renamed the Department of “Communication Design and Interiors.” This establishment marked the College of Architecture as Kuwait's first institution dedicated to specializing in architecture and design, with a focus on nurturing and advancing these fields within the country.
The College has set forth four key objectives:
- To provide a high-quality, world-class education aimed at cultivating professional and innovative architects and designers. These graduates are envisioned to positively contribute to the local and international community.
- To actively participate in scientific research and global dialogues, advancing the fields of architecture and design. This involves publishing in prestigious scientific journals, securing patents, and playing a pivotal role in enriching the nation's knowledge economy.
- To serve the community by developing effective architectural and design solutions. Leveraging cutting-edge discoveries in architecture and design sciences, the College aims to elevate the quality and efficiency of human life and the environment.
- To disseminate the knowledge, skills, and cultural aspects of architectural and design specializations, the College is committed to promoting these disciplines within society, emphasizing their vital and dynamic role in enhancing communal life.
The College of Architecture at Kuwait University encompasses two scientific departments and four academic programs:
- Department of Architecture: This department offers two academic programs:
i. Bachelor of Architecture (5-year program)
ii. Master of Science in Architecture, available as both full-time and part-time options.
- Department of Communication Design and Interiors: This department offers two academic programs:
i. Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communication Design (4-year program)
ii. Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Architecture (4-year program)
These academic programs, irrespective of their specialization and scientific nature, collectively contribute to teaching students the science and art of design. This involves the creation and implementation of products that positively impact individuals, society, and the surrounding environment (except for the master's program, which emphasizes scientific research methods and thesis writing). The scope of design varies with each specialization: architects design cities, residential areas, and buildings; interior architects focus on the interior spaces of buildings, preparing them for adaptive reuse; and visual communication designers who create two-dimensional works such as magazine layouts, webpage designs, logos, interactive apps, and others
